We want you to meet Derek, a valued client who has graciously agreed to share his remarkable fitness story! Derek’s experience with Free Form Fitness spans three of our locations and encompasses a significant shift in his goals, particularly in light of recent health issues.
Derek’s journey with us began at our Kanata location in 2017, where he was working in the tech hub. He initially stepped into our Kanata location with the goal of building strength and agility, recognizing the detrimental effects of prolonged desk work on his body.
“Turns out that sitting at a computer all day isn’t great for your body.”
Since 2021, he’s been a client at our Wellington location with trainer Nick. What made him commit longer-term?
“I’m more motivated to keep coming because I have a trainer who actually plans things out for me and corrects my form. I’m not the type of person who can go to a DIY gym consistently.”
Over the years, Derek’s fitness goals underwent a significant transformation. Initially, he wanted a six-pack and impressive muscles. Derek’s goals changed he faced health issues that required surgery, sidelining him from the gym for over two months. After his recovery, he had to take things slow.
“Nick was really good about helping me work out in a safe and controlled manner. I was able to still get results whilst adhering to my doctor’s orders.”
For Derek, working with a personal trainer has been a game-changer. He identifies himself as someone who learns best when guided by a teacher.
“PTs are basically teachers, but for the gym!”
They provide not only fitness expertise but also motivation, support, and accountability. This statement encapsulates the essence of personal training – it’s not just about lifting weights or doing exercises; it’s about having a knowledgeable partner who can navigate your unique fitness journey with you.
