Extreme Makeover: Day 17
Cardiovascular exercise is a crucial component to achieving optimal health.
Picture what happens to a broken arm when it is put in a cast for 6 weeks. The arm muscles atrophy (shrink), as well as becoming weaker and flabbier.
Now instead of picturing an arm, picture your heart and lungs. Now what do you think happens to your heart and lungs if you do not train these muscles… the same thing! They will shrink, become weaker, and as a result, you will feel the effects.
All in all, if cardiovascular exercise is not part of your daily routine, chances are that you are depleting your body of oxygen. When this happens, common symptoms of oxygen deficiency are fatigue, depression, decreased libido, sleeping problems, blood sugar problems, etc.
All of these symptoms could easily be removed by addressing the CAUSE, which in many cases is a lack of exercise.
Action steps for today:
1. I want you to increase your cardiovascular exercise to three times per week. Make sure that you increase your heart rate for at least 15 minutes in order to benefit fully from your aerobic exercise.
2. In your journal, write down how you felt on the days when you exercised, versus the days you did not exercise.
3. Continue adding fruits and vegetables to your diet. Remember, this does not mean that you have to completely stop eating what you regularly eat for breakfast; it just means that you are going to add a banana (for example) to your regular meal.
4. Don’t forget to replace processed foods with a healthier alternative and always remember, you are not just eating and exercising for yourself. You are doing all of this to fulfill your mission in life, and to help your family and friends achieve their mission for their life.
