Fitness mom having what it takes to keep up with 4 kids
But the results speak for themselves. After months of effort, working out three to five times a week, she has the strength and energy to keep up with four young children and still have something left at the end of the day.
“It’s awesome,” she said. “Everything is just easier. I am referring anybody and everybody to Free Form. They literally hold your hand to help you get through whatever issues you are having.”
When we spoke with her, she was capping off another great workout with a snack of jellybeans, 10, to be exact.
It may seem an odd choice for someone who has struggled with food and her weight, but thanks to the FFF team and trainer Michael Robichaud, Nancy has come to understand how food works, and freed herself from the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting. She understands now that, after a vigorous workout, the body needs a bit of a boost to restore depleted blood sugars – hence the sweet treat.
“At the end of the day, it’s all math – what you put in, what you expend,” she said.
Before coming to FFF, Nancy found it difficult to schedule regular exercise. Her fitness level deteriorated further after her last pregnancy, for the twins, when she had to bed rest for the final trimester.
“Just walking a flight of stairs and lugging these two little people around left me out of breath.”
Managing her diet was a particularly important. Before becoming a full-time mom, Nancy was a nurse. But even a healthcare professional can suffer the consequences of relying on food as a comfort.
“When I’m stressed, or life is a little wonky, food gives me that two-minute comfort, and afterward I feel guilty about what I ate,” she said.
Nancy turned to Free Form Fitness after being discouraged by the lack of motivation, accountability, or nutrition counseling at the big fitness chains. Her first goal when she came to FFF was to lose 20 pounds, which she did in four months. Today, she has lost a total of 27 pounds.
Food is still sometimes a challenge, but better nutrition has become habitual.
“The best way I have found to deal with it is to allow myself that cheat day, that treat once in a while, so I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself,” Nancy said.
Encourage by her results, Nancy’s husband has also joined FFF. Even friends and family who were initially skeptical have come around.
“The people close to me could see how I was tired, but now they see the results and they are pretty encouraged,” Nancy said.
Nothing has made more of a difference to keep her on track than the support of the FFF team.
“I just kept going,” Nancy said. “It got to the point where I actually enjoyed working out. If you know someone’s cheering for you, you are more likely to do it.”
